Harris St Pyrmont

Office Fit Out

Laycock Constructions partnered with architects Allen Jack & Cottier on the redevelopment of 181 Harris Street, Pyrmont, a historic building originally constructed in 1880 and currently occupied by Simon Johnson Gourmet Foods. The project involved a careful blend of preservation and modern expansion.

The brief called for the addition of two levels of commercial office space and a car park with a turntable, while also maintaining the building’s heritage character. One of the key features of the design is a beautiful single-story wing within the original structure, which encloses a small, tranquil green courtyard, providing a peaceful retreat for those within the space.

In addition to the office expansion, a pedestrian bridge was constructed to link the newly developed offices at 181 Harris Street to the Bonnington building at 179 Harris Street, Pyrmont, further enhancing connectivity between the two properties. The project successfully balances modern functionality with historical preservation, creating a vibrant, dynamic commercial environment that respects the building’s legacy while meeting the needs of contemporary tenants.
